Research & Personas

We did some research to better understand the needs of the cafe and surf shop’s customers. We developed two user personas to guide the design process: Linda, the Vacationing Mother and Ethan, the Traveler.

Visual Design

Layout and Navigation

We designed the app’s layout just for tablets, with big buttons and plenty of space to make it easy to navigate. Users can quickly switch between the cafe and surf shop sections with one tap. This improves how easy the app is to use while including all the important information for the hotel users.

Testing & Refinement

We conducted several rounds of user testing to improve the app and make it meet the needs of the personas. Testers found the app easy to use on tablets, with clear buttons and smooth navigation, and they appreciated the ability to switch easily between the cafe and surf shop sections. To enhance the user experience, we redesigned the menu layout for better readability and quicker ordering, improved the surf shop product pages with larger images and more details, and streamlined the ordering process to make it quicker and simpler.

The Final Solution

The final design blends functionality with a visually cohesive experience, effectively meeting the needs of users like Linda and Ethan. It features a tablet-specific design that is optimized for large touch targets and a clean, spacious layout. The cafe menu offers an intuitive interface for browsing and placing orders, while the surf shop section provides easy access to product details, availability, and favorites. Overall, the design aligns with the hotel’s branding while maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of the cafe and surf shop.

Results & Feedback

The results were very positive. Testers were highly satisfaction with the app, praising its simplicity and efficiency, especially when used on tablets. The design successfully balances the hotel’s branding with the aesthetic of the cafe and surf shop, creating a cohesive experience. The app felt intuitive and met its user needs effectively, significantly enhancing their overall experience during their visits. This feedback underscores the app’s success in delivering a user-friendly and valuable tool for the hotel customers.
